SPORTING Heavy Race Betting During Holidays

Since Easter, racing began on Saturday, £1,320,663 has been invested on the totalisator throughout the Dominion, the amount being £307.575 higher than for the three days last year. There have been 21 racing days, against 13 last year, and the average a meeting works out at £62,888, compared with £77,930 last year, and £30,185 in 1939, when the days numbered 19. The Easter racing and trotting has been a good source of revenue to the Government, whose share of taxation from all meetings aggregated more than £123,800.
