Electrical Storms Sweep Australia
(Rec. 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, April 24.
A succession of severe electrical storms swept Australia’s south-east coast and tablelands yesterday, causing damage to crops and market gardens. A hailstorm battered Sydney, and Melbourne suffered from lightning, which injured three men and damaged houses. In Canberra an electric storm put the electric system out of operation and disrupted plane services.
The hail in Sydney suburbs was up to two inches in diameter and was banked in some places three feet deep.
