REEFTON ANZAC DAY REMEMBRANCE
MR. C. F. SKINNER TO SPEAK AT COMBINED SERVICE
(0.C.) REEFTON, April 23. Anzac Day celebrations this year at Reel'ton have again been arranged by the Reefton Returned Services’ Association. A service will be held at 11 a.m. in the Princess Theatre, when the speaker will be the Minister of Rehabilitation (Mr. C. F. Skinner, M.C.). Mr. W. G. Porter (President of the R.S.A.) will preside and members of the association will parade for the service. The Inangahua Silver Band will be present. At the close of the service wreaths will be paced on the war .memorial at the Council Chambers. At the Wesley Church at 10 a.m. there will be a service of remembrance, at which the Rev. F. Trim will be the speaker. YOUTH RALLY The annual Easter rally of the Young Anglican Movement of the West Coast, was held at Reefton on Easter Monday. The attendance of 60 included representatives from Holy Trinity Church (Greymouth), St. Thomas’s (Runanga), Church of the Resurrection (Cobden), and St. John’s (Westport). A morning service was held at St. Stephen’s Church, the speaker being Miss Jean Holm, youth organiser for the Board of Missions. The Rev. B. Jamison, Vicar of Granity was the organist. Visiting clergy included, the Rev. P. Kirkham (Vicar of Holy Trinity), the Rev. S. Corney (St. John’s Westport), and the Rev. E. O. Harding (Cobden and Runanga). On Monday afternoon the party went hiking to Globe Hill. COAL OUTPUT . . In four days last week Reeiton coal mines produced 2010 tons of coal for consignment from Reefton. Coal hoppers for shipping were in short supply on two of the four days, but this was remedied on Saturday when 100 were received. Most of these were loaded on Saturday, making a consignment of 800 tons of shipping coal from Reefton over the week-end. WEDDING The wedding was celebated recently at St. Stephen’s Church, Reefton, of Margaret Helen, younger daughter of Mrs?C. and the late Mr. D. Barnett, of Inangahua Landing, and Robert, second son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Griffin, of Reel'ton. The Rev. V. L. Leaning officiated. The bride, who was escorted by her cousin Mr. C. Barnett, wore an ankle length frock of dusky pink romaine, and a black picture hat and carried a spray of pink autumn flowers. Miss Eileen Griffin, sister of the bridegroom was bridesmaid and wore a frock of blue romaine with hat to tone and carried a scarlet spray. Mr. S. Baxter (Reefton) was best man. A wedding reception was held at Dawson’s Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Griffin later left by railcar, the bride travelling in a pink ensemble. Mr. and Mrs. Griffin will reside in Reefton.
