STRIKE IN PALESTINE

GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES CEASE WORK COMMUNICATIONS PARALYSED (Rec. 10.45 a.m.) LONDON, April 16. Twenty-thousand Jewish and Arab Palestine Government employees have gone on strike throughout the country on orders from the Junior Civil Service Association, says Reuter’s Jerusalem correspondent. Only senior officers and security personnel remain on duty. To-day. the first day of the general feast of the Passover, is a general holiday in Palestine, and all ships, businesses, and industries are closed. The strike coincided with the announcement that the dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed on February 26 on all roads in Palestine, except those in he Arab sector, had been lifted. The curfew was imposed after attacks on airfields. . . The strikers demand increased wages, the exclusion of British personnel from specified jobs, and improved working conditions. The strike has paralysed communications, transport, and dock operations.
