Mr. T. E. Y. Seddon, of Wellington, is visiting Greymouth. Mr A. E. Kitchingham left to-day, on his return to Wellington. Mrs T. G .Kitchingham left this morning on her return to Christchurch. Miss K. McDonald left to-day on her return to Christchurch. Mr J. B. Shannon left this morning for Wellington. Miss Margaret C. Minehan has been appointed town clerk and librarian at Ross.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Popham, of Invercargill, are visiting relatives in Greymouth. Lieutenant J. A. Thode, who was navigating officer of H.M.A.S. Perth when she was sunk in the Java Sea battle in 1942, has been appointed day officer on the Auckland Harbourmaster’s staff. Lieutenant Thode will bring the Devonport Steam Ferry Company’s recently purchased vehicular ferry Frances Peat from Sydney to Auckland shortly, and will take up his new appointment early ' next month. Lieutenant Thode, who is a well known Auckland yachtsman went to sea in the Finnish sailing ship Grace Harwar in 1932, and in the following 10 years served in several ships trading to many corners of the world.—(P.A.)
