BAND CONTEST
A GRADE , CHAMPIONSHIP DECIDED WELLINGTON WATERSIDE < WINS • The second A grade test selection the “Joan of Arc” overture, was played this evening by bands competing in the New Zealand Victory Band Contest. The A grade championship was decided on this test and on the first test played on Tuesday evening. The winning band was Wellington Waterside Silver, one point ahead of Woolston and St. Kilda. The standard of. playing last night was quite good, but occasional mistakes by top soloists, some faulty intonation, and rhythmical errors indicated that the performances were not as good as on the occasion of the first test.' It was in the second movement of the selection last night that most of the bands failed.
The Wellington Waterside Silver Band is conducted,, by R. Fenton. This is the first contest at which he has conducted. The judges’ placings were:— - First Second ' test. test. Total
