INCREASED PAY
ELECTRICAL WORKERS’ APPRENTICES RETROSPECTIVE TO JULY LAST The Court of Arbitration, Westland Industrial District, has announced an amendment to the Westland Electrical Workers’ Apprenticeship Order. _ _ The amendment states: “The minimum weekly rates of wages payable to apprentices shall be the undermentioned percentages of an amount equal to 40 times the nominal hourly rate of wages for journeymen.” The percentages are then set out, commencing with 23 per cent for the first six months, and rising to 77 per cent for the tenth period of six months. The present journeyman’s rate is 3/0g per hour, or £6/l/Bi>for a 40 hour week so that the rates for apprentices rise from £l/10/11 for the first six months to £4/19/10 for the final six months of the apprenticeship period. These figures do not include bonuses and allowances; The new order is made retrospective to July 1, 1945.
