GERMAN PROTECTED
ARGENTINE’S PRESIDENT ACCUSED NEW YORK, March 18. The United States has again demanded delivery to the Allies of Ludwig Freude, alleged to be the chief Nazi agent in Argentina. He is the personal friend and adviser of Colonel Juan Peron, who has Freude’s son as his confidential secretary. The American Note said that on November 23, 1937, two years after the Argentine Government claimed that Freude became and Argentine citizen, the German Ambassador issued to him a German passport. The correspondent of the New York Times at Buenos Aires points out that this information was obtained from German Embassy files. Colonel Perron’s continued protection of Freude, against whom the American Government believes it has overwhelming proof that he was left behind as Nazi paymaster when Argentina broke diplomatic relations, is one of the factors complicating any change in current American policy. The Associated Press understands that the British Government has sent a similar Note.
