VERDICT OF SUICIDE

WELLINGTON MAN’S DEATH

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Mar. 20. The body of Alfred Arthur Gillies, married, aged 64, was recovered from the Wairoa river, yesterday afternoon. Mr. Gillies went for a walk at six did not return by 7 o’clock fears were entertained for his safety. The police o’clock in the morning and when he were communicated with and commenced dragging operations, the body being recovered from the river in the vicinity of the Frasertown bridge. Mr. Gillies, who resided at Oriental Bay, Wellington, had been an annual visitor to Wairoa for the past 20 years. At the inquest a verdict was returned that the deceased took his life while suffering from severe mental depression. .
