CRICKET REPRESENTATIVE MATCH DRAWN

MARIST A DEFEATS WOODSTOCK

The return match between Greymouth and Hokitika was played at Greymouth on Saturday and resulted in a draw, with the honours to the home side. H. Pierson made an excellent 50 for Hokitika and A. Barlow, a newcomer to the Greymouth team, justified his inclusion by taking three wickets for 18 runs and making 10 runs out of a small total. The Greymouth team was not at home on the concrete wicket and the standard of batting was below expectations. The Wingham Cup game, played on tne Recreation Ground yesterday, was a game of thrills and 540 runs were scored during the day. Woodstock fared badly in their first strike but made amends in the second innings when a sodden and slippery ball handicapped the bowlers. R. Madgwick scored a dashing 120 and R. Wells made 85 not out. The Marist batsmen had a field day and ran up the highest score of the season with 282 made in approximately three hours. Competition games were continued yesterday and Marist B, in spite of a loss on the first innings against Cobden, retain a one point lead in the competition. United A defeated Brunner on the first innings at Taylorville. GREYMOUTH V. HOKITIKA.
