DUNEDIN EXCITING FINISH IN PRINCIPAL RACE

(P.A.) DUNEDIN, March 2. There was an exciting finish in the Wingatui Handicap, the principal event on the Dunedin Jockey Club’s programme to-day. Silver Mask won narrowly from Royal Lancer and Pride of Mossburn, who could not be separated at the post. Lord Dundonald and Pride of Mossburn went to the front early, and setting a fast pace soon opened up a break of about six lengths to Aurora Australis, with another gap to Royal Lancer and Silver Mask, with Tring and Sing Sing in the rear. Lord Dondonald had a slight advantage from Pride of Mossburn entering the straight, with Aurora Australis, Silver Mask, and Tring in close attendance. Tring made a fast run commencing the run home and was momentarily in front, but soon gave way to Silver Mask, which went on to win ridden right out. Royal Lancer put in a solid run to draw on terms with Pride of Mossburn in the last stride. Aurora Australis was two lengths back in front of Tring and Sing Sing together.
