DEPORTATION OF BALTS.

(Rec. 11 a.m.) STOCKHOLM, January 23. The deportation to Russia under greatest secrecy of 340 German and Baltic internees began to-day. A heavy police guard was mounted to prevent a recurrence of suicide attempts. " The handing over of the Balts to the Russians caused a widespread controversy in Sweden after the Balts resisted the original effort to transport them to Russia by hunger striking and mutilating themselves. Russia also claimed about 30,000 Balt civilian refugees, but Sweden refused to send them back.
