The death occurred at Timaru today of Mr. Robert Coulter, M.P. for Raglan, after a long illness. —P.A.

A Hollywood cablegram announces the death of Theodore Dreiser, the author, from a heart attack.

Mr D. A. Spence, Hokitika, will commence duty on Thursday on the Greymouth staff of the Rehabilitation Department. Mr Spence recently returned from service overseas with the R.N.Z.A.F.

The marriage took place recently at Governor’s Bay of Nancy M. Black, formerly of Greymouth, to Duncan Donald of Wellington. Mrs. C. Wright was matron of honour and Mr. Hardy Fischer was best man.

A Vienna cablegram stated it was officially reported that MajorGeneral Donald W. Brann, Deputy Commander of the American Forces in Austria, was killed on Friday when he fell 100 feet down a cliff at Kitzbeuhel, in the Tyrol, whilehunting.

A Canberra cablegram announced that Mr. John S. Duncan, at present Acting-High Commissioner for Australia in London, has been appointed the first Australian Minister to Chile. He joined the New South Wales Public Service in 1903 and transferred to the Commonwealth Public Service in 1923. In 1933 he was appointed Official Secretary in Great Britain for Australia, and four years later he became Deputy-High Commissioner.
