LONDON, Dec. 20. St. Andrew’s Golf Club announced that the prize money for the British Open Golf Championship to be held on July 1, 1946, would be doubled, bringing the total to £lOOO. The winner will receive £l5O, the runner-up £lOO, third £75, fourth £5O, fifth £25, and the next thirtyfive competitors £l5 each. Pointing out that prize money was hitherto a secondary consideration, the “Daily Mail’s” golf writer recalls that Walter Hagen handed over the first prize .of £lOO to his caddy as a tip. '
