RUNANGA BATHS.
[to the editor.] Sir,—As a ratepayer of Runanga, I was amazed to read in your report of the Runanga Borough Council meeting that the water supply at Runanga is not capable of supplying the swimming baths with water. If "I remember correctly, the scheme cost about £25,000, and there was supposed to be enough water there to supply Greymouth. If there is any inherent fault with the scheme, theri surely it is about time something was done about it. If, as stated, the Public Works Department approved the plans, then why not call the Department in to see what is really wrong? Maybe, the present Council is not to blame for the shortcomings of the scheme, but if they fail to do anything to remedy the faults, then they must accept responsibility. The swimming baths had a water supply of sorts before the coming of the Borough scheme, and in return for assurances of a water supply, the baths committee gave the Borough their long pipeline from the hills. Now they are left without anything, and what good are baths without, water? Perhaps they could be turned into an outsize in lily ponds, such as we' already have here and there in the town. It is not a matter to do nothing about.—Yours, etc., “WATERWINGS.”
