CATTLE AGAIN EASE Recent values were maintained in most sections at yesterday’s Addington Market, with hoggets and aged ewes the exception. Fat lambs improved, but the beef entry was again heavy and there was another easing. Porkers advanced, but baconers were cheaper. Bidding for store sheep was keener than for some time and prices advanced by fully 1/-. The best of the hogget entry made from 24/- to. 26/9, medium to good 21/3 to 23/1, and inferior from 10/9 to 16/3. A pen of 40 woolly ewes and 42 lambs sold for 17/- all counted, and 123 ewes and 120 lambs made from 16/9 to 17/1. Others sold from 7/- to 12/3. The fat lamb yarding totalled 1308 but the extra supply did not affect tl-.-a demand and last week’s good prices were fully maintained and in some cases exceeded. The quality-had improved. Values were: Extra prime lambs 36/- to 40/1; prime lambs, 27/7 to 32/7; medium and light, 22/4 to 25/1.

The fat sheep yarding was about 3,500. including many hoggets which did not. sc4l well. "Except for best quality there was a drop of 2/- a head. ’Overfat ewes were not sought, but young owes and ewes found a sound sale at recent figures. Values were:—Extra prime wethers, to 48/7. Best beef made from 47/- to 50/por 1001 b., a few pens slightly more, good to 46/-, medium to 44?-, best cows to 38/-, secondary to 31/-. Values were: Extra prime steers, £2l to £25/7/6. Prime steers, £l7 to £l9/10/-. Prime medium-weight steers, £l5/5/- to £l7. Medium steers, to £l4/10/-. Extra prime heifers, to £l5/12/6. Prime heifers, £l2/10/- to £l4. Medium heifers, £9/10/- to £l2. Extra prime cows, £l3 to £l4/17/6. Prime cows, £9 15/- to £ll/10/-. Medium cows, £7 10/- to £9/5/-. Light and aged cows, £5/15/- to £7.

Vealers were of medium size but sold well at parity with those of the sound' sale last week. Values were: Large vealers, £7/1/- to £9/13/6. medium £5/16/- to £6/18/6; best suckers £5/1/- to £6/16/-, medium £3/13/6 to £4/16/-: large calves 54/_ to 72/-, medium 33/1 to 50/-, small and rough 10/- to 30/-. The entry of dairy cattle was normal for this period of the year, numbering about 60 head. A feature was the improved demand for springing heifers, some selling for £2O to £22/10/-. Better quality cows made up to £lB 10/-, good heifers from £l3 to £lB, medium to good £lO/10/- to £l3, others £B/10/- to £lO. Best second, third and fourth calvers made £l3 10/--to £l6/10/-; good average sorts £9/10/- to £l2, aged and backward £5 to £B.

The fat pig entry was large but values were easier by 5/- to 6/- a head. Values were: Light porkers, £3 2/6 to £3/12/6, medium £3/14/6 to £3/19/6. heavy £4/4/6 to £4/14/6: choppers' £4/1/- to £lO/18/6; light baconers, £4/9/6 to £4/14/6; medium £4/17/6 to £5/5/6, heavy £5 9/6 to £5/19/6, extra heavy £6/7/6 to £6/19/6. Average price per lb., Sid to 9. I ,d. Store pig values eased by 3/- to 4/- a head, excepting-for big stores. Values were: Small weaners 20/- to 25/-, best 27/- to 32/-; slips, 36/- to 40/-: small stores 42/- to 48/-, medium 50/- to 56/-, large 58/- to 63/-.
