KUMARA NOTES
[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Miss Betty Sinclair, of the Post and Telegraph Department, is a patient in the Westland Hospital. Mr A. G. Wood had an unfortunate experience on Labour Day. He took Pedantic from Kumara to Christchurch, intending to race the horse at the Rangiora races. The float on which they were proceeding from Christchurch to Rangiora was involved in a collision with a motor car, with the result that they could not reach the course in time for the race. An old Kumara resident, Mr Edward Roberts,, died yesterday in the Westland Hospital. He had been living in Kumara for the past live years, and previously had been engaged as roadman by the Public Works Department for many years. He is survived by a sister, Mrs vv. -J • McConnon, of Wellington. The death occurred on Sunday at Hokitika of Mr “Griff” Rich, who many years ago was a member oi tne staff of the Government Water Race Office in Kumara. Of recent years he has been secretary of the Arahuia dredge and resided in Hokitika.
