NEW RATION BOOKS

- - —— CONTROLLER?S_STATEMENT. WELLINGTON, October. 23. “The registration of consumers with retailers for their butter rations will be required, as previously, with the new issue of ration books, said the Food and Rationing Controller (Mr. A. J. Costelloe) to-day. “Every new ration book must be registered with a retailer before any butter may be purchased on the new coupons, but consumers are at liberty to choose any retailer with the understanding that they must continue to buy their butter from that retailer for the next six months. “The procedure is the same as last vear. The butter, registration counterfoil on the top of the first sheet in the new ration book is to be filled in and the book presented to the chosen retailer. The retailer will cut out the counterfoil, enter his name on the space provided inside the front cover of the book, and enter the book number and the name of the holder in his butter register. The counterfoils are to be collected by the .retailer and sent in to the local rationing office, with a declaration of the number submitted and entered on the register not later than November 12. -The registration of priority egg consumers in areas where the priority system is operating will be conducted in the same manner, although consumers need not register until the falling off of supplies later in the season should make it necessary. “Food coupons become available from October 29 in accordance with the calender on the back cover of the ration book, except in the case of butter, where every fourth coupon is cancelled until further notice. “Hosiery coupon XlO4 will expire on October 31, and the remainder of the old hosiery card would be cancalled after that date,” said Mr. Costelloe. “The first coupon, X2Ol, on the new card issued to all women, 16 years of age and over, with their new ration books, is available for one pair of fully-fashioned silk or artificial silk stockings for the six months commencing November 1 next, ine first set of clothing coupons in. the new book will not be released until December 1.”
