BRUNETTES FAVOURED
HORNETS’ NEST OF BLONDES
By expressing the opinion that brunettes are better endowed than blondes 'Dr. R. E. G. Armatoe, an Irish anthropologist has stirred up a hornets’ nest in U.S.A. He says that hrun Writes have better memories, better mentalities, and more powers of concentration. Blondes are not adapted to highly industrialised countries. Dr. Alan Rider, head ot Cardiff .Physiological Bureau, supports Dr. Armatoe’s assertions by saying that brunettes are better athletes, harder workers, and are more dependable. In the “American Weekly,” Anita Loos, authoress of the famous book Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,” has come to the defence of blondes. , , The delusion is all too prevalent that brains are more important than sense ” Miss Loos writes. “Too many women have brains, and far too tew have any sense.” She considers that too many women learn to be experts in all sorts’ of businesses and intellectual pursuits which merely gives them an opportunity to do man’s work. ‘ I don t believe that a brunette who by hard work attains a high place in industry is anywhere near as sensible as a blonde sitting on her boss’s knees. “Just what is the purpose o£ a brain?” Miss Loos asks. * I admit that a brunette student will study harder to pass her examinations, but while she is doing this a blonde fascinates the professor who awards the marks, and .so she generally comes out a whole lot better. It's all very well to say that sex isn’t a girl’s major consideration, but until some girl who looks like Lana Turner, Hedy Larnaar, or Betty Grable will choose to demonstrate that theory it hasn’t a leg to stand on. We weep over the careers of Florence Nightingale and Jane Addams, but who is ever going to feel sorry for Mae West?”
