NORTH LEAGUE’S TEAM AUCKLAND, October 4. Keen interest is being taken in the annual Rugby League fixture between the North and South Island teams to be played at Carlaw Park next Saturday. The South Island team, already announced, is a strong combination. At the conclusion of the Auckland v. South Auckland match at Huntly on Saturday the selectors, Messrs A. T. McClymont, E. K. Asher and C. Siddle, chose the following North Island team:—Fullback, J. Smith (North Shore); threequarters, B. Nordgren (Ponsonby), A. Kay (Ponsonby); J. Murray (Manukau), P. Kelly (Ponsonby); halfbacks, R. Clarke (North Shore), L. Allen (South Auckland); forwards, A. Hambleton (South Auckland): J. Rutherford (North Shore), DT Ryan (Richmond), P. Ririnui (Manukau), T. Hardwick (Ponsonby), G. Moyes (South Auckland). The choice of J. Smith in preference to W. S. Clarke, the Auckland full-back, in all games this season, comes as a surprise. Smith recently returned from overseas and has played only two matches. The selectors saw Clarke give a high-class display against South Auckland- at Huntly on Saturday. Of interest to West Coasters is the fact that not one member of the Otahuhu team, which played at Greymouth last week-end, secured a berth in the team, and only one forward of the Richmond team which had intended to visit the West Coast this month. In the back-line particularly are a number of changes from the Auckland team that narrowly de-

feated West Coast early in September. Marist Seniors: Watson, Costello, Molloy, Coll, Mundy, Rochford, Malone, Sweetman, Knapp, Curnow, Meates, Dunn, Stokes, Dargan. RUGBY FOOTBALL Celtic third grade team to play St. Mary’s at. Hokitika (assemble at Railway station at 11 a.m.): —McKeefry, R. Burley, Geurin, K. Burley, V.
