REHABILITATION

VICTORIA COLLEGE COURSES WELLINGTON, Sept. 18. The Public Service Commissioner has announced the inauguration of a series of three-week rehabilitation courses at Victoria University College. Forty public servants who -have been discharged from the armed forces after service overseas will be selected for each course. The first course commenced on September 4. The course is designed to inform returned servicemen of the Governmental developments that occurred while I hey were overseas, and to stimulate their interest in the problems of Go- \ ernment generally. The programme of lectures has accordingly been planned to provide a general survey of recent political, administrative, and economic changes, and to forecast some of the problems that the public -ervice will be called upon to solve during the period of reconstruction. The lecturers have 'been drawn from both the public service and the • faff of Victoria University College, including the department of political science and public administiation. Twenty-eight lectures are included in the course, and each lecture is followcd bv a general discussion. Pai to. each day is set aside as a reading period, books on public administration and allied subjects being provided from the Victoria College library. In addition, visits are paid to Parliament and to selected Government departments. ■ . More than 250 former servicemen have applied to take the course, and it is expected that further applications will be received as demobilisation ‘proceeds. The first 40 selected come {from a wide range of departments, and from all parts of New Zealand. One of the important factors governing the selection of each group will Ibe length of service overseas. lhe Public Service Commissioner expressed his deep appreciation ol the assistance that was being given by the principal and teaching stall 01 Victoria University College.
