SYDNEY SHOOTINGS
:— UNDERWORLD FEUD ALLEGED. SYDNEY, September 18. A double murder charge was pre- ’ ['erred against Arthur Joseph O’Keefe, aged 22, a wharf labourer, who was arrested to-day after an affray in a house in Paddington (a suburb of Sydney), in which two men were shot dead and three wounded. O’Keefe was also charged on two counts of shooting with intent to murder. Those fatally shot were James Francis O’Connor, aged 30, a labourer, and Ronald Paton, alias Ronald Connors, aged 27, a labourer. Two of the wounded are in a serious condition. Another wounded man was allowed to leave hospital. All the men shot are known to the police, who describe the shooting as a sequel to a three-day feud. The police have been told that the shooting occurred during a brawl, in which O’Keefe was knocked to. the floor and .portion of his nose bitten off.. O’Keefe appeared in Court with his’ face heavily bandaged. Ronald Paton (one of the dead men) recently completed a long gaol term given him for biting off part of a man’s nose.
