Mr. C. Nickel left by this morning’s plane for Wellington. Able Seaman John Tuhuru, whose wife is Mrs M. N. Tuhuru, of Hokitika, is reported in “a naval casualty list to have died of illness. A London cablegram announced the death of Sir David Young Cameron, Scottish painter and etcher. He was born in 1865. The death occurred at Carterton, last week, of Lew Hemi, a Wellington representative League player, and a brother of Jack Hemi. Aged only 19 years, Hemi had played senior football since leaving school and had played for Wellington against Auckland in July. He became ill after the game, and was taken to hospital, remaining there until his death. . The resignation of Mr. P. Heath as headmaster of the Runanga School was accepted with regret at a meeting of the school committee last evening, and it was decided to place on record the committee’s appreciation of Mr. Heath’s services to the school. Mr. Heath has received an appointment as headmaster of a school in the Hawke’s Bay district.

A London cablegram stated it was believed in Conservative Party circles that Mr. Churchill will spend the. Winter in Australia. Air Commodore E. R. Pearce, O. R.A.F., the first representative of the British Ministry of Aircraft Production to visit New Zealand in an official capacity, arrived in Auckland yesterday by air from Sydney. His headquarters are in Melbourne, and he has come to New Zealand to hold discussions in Wellington with the Chief of the New Zealand Air Staff. He expects to be in New Zealand for about a week. Air Commodore Pearce said he was unable to disclose the nature of the discussions, but they would probably deal with the future of aircraft production in New Zealand. — P. Aged 75 years, he was born at No Town, but went to the Kotuku district with his parents when a child, his parents being the founders of the township. In his younger days he was engaged in packing to the gold claims in the district, but lately had been farming. He is survived by seven sons. John. Peter (Kotuku), Joseph, Edward (Cobden), Michael (Mqana), Terence (Otira), and Kevin (N.Z.E.F. Italy), and three daughters, Mrs. C. Bell and 11 Miss Rose Molloy (Kotuku) and Mrs J. E. Hartigan (Kokiri). The funeral will take place at Karoro cemetery on Friday afternoon.
