SPRING FLOWERS
ST. PATRICK’S SHOW AWARDS The first Spring Flower Show .of the West Coast circuit was Held by St. Patrick’s Horticultural Society in the Columba Hall on Saturday. The Patron, Rev. Father Flaherty,, presenting the trophies, 'made reference to the standard of blooms, and congratulated all exhibitors on their effort, considering the inclement weather conditions prevailing. The highlight of the show was the display on the show bench of about 200 blooms staged by W. Buchanan, of Karoro. The premier bloom was also displayed by Mr Buchanan, being a self yellow incomparabilis named “St. Eg win"—the best flower seen on the Coast for years. W. Buchanan also won the Hannan Cup, Bellamy Memorial Cup, the Marshall trophy as well as the blue ribbon. In the amateur section Mr W. J. Preston won the Rathbun Cup and Mr D. Haglund, was runner-up. Mr E. Yates was judge of the daffodils and the other judges were:—Decorative section, Miss B. Murphy; cut flowers, W. Buchanail;, preserves, Mrs L. Mercer; vegetables, Mr J. Bourke; hative section, Mr E. L. Kehoe; and the children’s section, daffodils and decorative, Mr O. Jackson.
The following awards were made: Open Section: Twelve distinct varieties (Hannan Cup): W. Buchanan 1 and 2. Nine distinct varieties (Bellamy Cup): W. Buchanan 1 and 2. Six Trumpets distinct: W. Buchanan 1 and 2; six Cup or Crown, distinct, W. Buchanah 1 and 2; three distinct daffodils, W. Buchanan 1 and 2; three Trumpet, distinct, W. Buchanan 1 and 2; three Cup or Crown, distinct, W. Buchanan 1 and 2; three Incomparabilis, W. Buchanan 1 and 2; three Leedsii, W. Buchanan 1 and 2; three Barrii, W. Buchanan 1 and 2; three Poeticus, W. Buchanan 1 and 2; three double daffodils, W.
