GREY TENNIS CLUB
t ANNUAL REPORT The annual report of the Grey Tennis Club to be presented at the annual meeting to be held ’in the pavilion, this evening, states:— During th-e season Saturday games were run on the board system and this proved quite successful and ensured that each player got a fair share of games. Owing to wire netting being unprocurable nothing could be done to the fences during the season other than patching, but it is hoped that this can be remedied in the near future. The West Coast Lawn Tennis Association ran an Easter Tournament on the Club's courts, and two of the Club’s members, Miss M. Costello and Mr. H. Hill, were successful in winning the Women’s and Men’s Championships. The Club membership, 'including members in the Armed Forces, is as follows: Women: Seniors 35, intermediate 1. junior 7, country 1, Total 44. Men: Senior 31. intermediate 2, junior 4, country 2. Total 39. This makes a total membership of 83, which is a decrease of 11 on last season. The club is in a good financial position, and the excess of income over expenditure for the season amounted to £2O/4/8. The Runanga Club challenged for the Presidential Trophy and was successful in winning. No Club Championships were held during the year. The Club’s thanks are due to the Press, Mrs. Mclntosh (caterer), and Messrs Herring (auditor) and Boddy (caretaker) ’ for their co-operation during the year and to the committee and players.
