FOOD FOR BRITAIN

UNUSED COUPONS COLLECTION. WELLINGTON, September 12. After representations from various organisations and individuals throughout the Dominion, the Government has worked out a scheme under which those desiring to do so may save food for Britain by contributing unused lood ration couoons. This was announced to-night, by the Minister of Supply (Mr. Sullivan). . , X, X Based on the principle that every coupon unused in New Zealand makes more food available overseas, this “more for Britain” campaign provided facilities for unused coupons to be returned after expiry to rationing officers throughout the country. No collection of money was involved in the campaign, under which meat, butter, sugar and tea coupons will be accepted. The Minister said the schemewould enable unused food coupons to be collected by such voluntary organisations and local authorities as wished to do so. They would be officially recognised for the purpose, and would regularly transmit the coupons they collected to rationing officers. Unused coupons should be placed in a sealed envelope and sent to rationing officers, with advice of the name of the sender, individual, or organisation, with a statement of the number of coupons of each kind, and in the case of butter coupons the names of the retailers with whom the contributors were registered. Envelopes endorsed “more for Britain” and clearly addressed “rationing officer,” should be handed to the nearest post office, or posted. The Minister said that coupons should be handed in only when their validity had expired, thus protecting all concerned against possible allegations of the wrongful use of coupons.
