LEAGUE FOOTBALL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE
The Management Committee of the West Coast Rugby League met last evening, Mr. B. F. Connors presiding. The New Zealand League advised of the appointment of Mr. J- Oakley as manager of the South League’s team to play North at Auckland on October 6, but regretted that it was impossible to assemble the South team two days earlier on account of accommodation arrangements. The League sent its approval of arrangements for tne match Between West Coast and Canterbury. A telegram was also received from Mr. W. a. Swift, the League’s representative on the New Zealand League concerning Mr. Oakley’s appointment, and members of the committee joined in congratulating him. Hornby Club (Christchurch) sought and were granted permission for its third grade team to play Runanga on September 22 or 23, and the matter was referred to Runanga Club. The Junior Management Committee, Canterbury League, wrote asking if the junior and fourth grade representative matches could be played at Greymouth on September 22. The committee decided to advise that the date was suitable, and the West Coast selectors are to be asked to choose the teams this Sunday. Otahuhu Club (Auckland) wrote stating that they had received permission from the Auckland League to 'travel to Greymouth to play on September 22, or if this date was not suitable on September 29. It was decided to accept September 29 as the date for the match, and it was resolved, subject to the approval of the club, that they play Blackball at Blackball on Saturday, September 29, and the combined clubs team at Wingham Park on Sunday, September 30.
Mr. W. Meates, a member of the committee, was congratulated on the selection of his son for trialist games for the N.Z.E.F. touring team. Mr. J. Griffen, manager of,the West Coast team which defeated Canterbury at Christchurch last week, presented a lengthy report, and paid a tribute to the behaviour of the team, also comolimenting Canterbury officials for- the efficient manner in which they arranged the game. It was also reported that the gatetakings last Saturday constituted a record for the interprovincial fixture. Mr. Griffen was thanked for his report. The Blackball Club applied for permission to play Korodale (Wellington) on September 30, but it was decided to advise the club that this date ■was unsuitable on account of the visit by the Otahuhu Club, but that a later date could be arranged if desired. Blackball Club were permitted to play Sydneham (Canterbury champions) at Christchurch next Saturday for the Thacker Shield. It was also decided to advise Blackball that if the committee's negotiations with the Richmond Club broke down, they were authorised to take them up. The fixtures for Sunday are as follow:—

Ngahere at Kumara at 2.30 p.m. (P. Sweetman); Blackball v. Runanga at Blackball at 2.45 p.m. (L. Kinsella); Marist a bye. Junior B (Semi-final Knock-out): Brunner v. Runanga at Runanga at 2.30 (J. Quinn); Kohinoor a bye. Fourth Grade: Brunner v. Marist at Brunner at 1.30 (F. Bernard); Kohinoor v. Runanga at Wingham Park No. 2 at 1.30 (W. Moore); Blackball a bye. Schoolboys, 6.7 (Saturday): Knockout semi-final: Runanga v. Kumara at Kumara at 2.15 (G. Hunt); Marist a -bye. 7.71 b (Knock-out final): Marist v. Brunner at Brunner at 1.30 (T. McKenzie).
