RACING AND TROTTING

FORTHCOMING FIXTURES. Sept. 1: Egmont-Wanganui-Taranaki ' Combined Hunts (at New Plymouth). Brood Mare Purchased; Mr. W. T. Hempseed, of Waiuta, has purchased a six-year-old mare by Quite Sure— Biddy Parrish, the dam of Believe Me. The mare will be mated with .Tosedale Dictator. Riccarton to Sydney: The two-year-old colt Chalon, by Battle Song from the English mare Saone, purchased as a yearling at Trentham for 500 guineas, is booked to be shipped to Sydney, where his owner, Mr G. Naughton, resides. Chalon had his early education in C. G. Fairmans stable at Riccarton, and attracted attention in the juvenile parade at the Grand National meeting. Back Again: Irish Lancer is to be given another chance to add to his? good record. It was thought that he had Finished racing after failing last Summer; but as he has become sound again, it was recently decided to put him into work again with F. W. Ellis. He is to be given salt water treatment on the Riverton beach, and, all going well, he will be tried over hurdles, as the weights he has been receiving did not give him much chance of staging a comeback on the flat. Royal Flight: There has been no word from Melbourne of any rehandicap for Royal Flight in the Caulfield Cup alter her win in the recent Winter Cup; and her owner, Mr D. M. Tweedie, of Riverton, has 'cabled asking whether any action was taken. If she has escaped any extra weight for the cup, she will probably be sent over. Her trainer, A. E. Didham, is keen on making the trip with her, but he will not be able to ride her as well as train her, as dual licences are debarred in Australia. COMBINED 'HUNT FIELDS NEW PLYMOUTH, August 24.
