MONTHLY MEETING [OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] REEFTON, August 24. . All members, except Cr. G. Williams were present at the monthly meeting of the Inangahua County Council, held yesterday, Cr. Coxall presiding. Correspondence received included: 1 From Reefton Branch', Automobile Association and V. L. Newcombe regarding the parking of trucks and motors on streets at night.—Traffic Inspector to attend to matter. ; From Mrs N. Wood asking attention to dangerous watercourse in Don Street.---Left to the Engineer for report. From Mrs C. Jackson accepting lease of Ferry Reserve. From Reefton Rehabilitation Com- • mittee asking for appointment of ‘ County representatives.—Crs. Archer ' and Clayton appointed. , From W. Arnott regarding Blacki water bridge contract. —No action ; taken, and deposit to be retained by the Council. I From E. •A. Lemon regarding ; bridge at his farm. —Council to offer ! no objection. I From Knox Church asking attention to kerbing at church. —To receive ■attention.

From Inspector of Stock regarding control of noxious weeds. —Inspector to be advised that the Council has no labour for this work. From Mr Skinner regarding improvements to Reefton railway yards. —Resolved that Mr Archer meet the District Traffic Manager regarding alterations to the Greymouth-Reel-ton rail-car service.

- From Mr W. B. Williams resigning as County Engineer.—Resignation received will;, regret. Cr. Archer moved and Cr. Topp seconded, that Mr N. Bolitho be offered the position of Acting County Overseer at £8 per week. —Agreed. From Inangahua District Progress League regarding street signs at Reeftpn, asking for strict observance of by-laws regarding care of stabling accommodation, and for attention to ; the wandering stock nuisance at ' Reefton. —Attention to be given to the I Reefton pound and repairs to the fences. It was decided to set up a Chairman’s Relief of Distress Fund. The Chairman reported receipt of cheque tor £25 as contribution from art union proceeds to commence this iund. . The Chairman reported on a visit to Departmental officers in Wellington concerning the buying of machinery by the Council. —It was. resolved that application be again made for the necessary forms from the Works Department. j A resolution was passed that tne Prime Minister be asked to convey to the Heads of the Armed Forces ot the Dominion-the thanks of the Council for their fine work during the war. and good wishes to the workers on the home front. Cr. Blackadder moved and Cr Clayton seconded that the good wishes of the Council be conveyed to all who had worked to provide the .splendid ’“Peace celebrations pro-! gramme in Reefton.—Approved. A request is to be made io ihei Public Works Department for ropes for Creighton’s bridge, Maruia. Messrs C. Buist and R. Yellowlees met the Council as a deputation from the Inangahua District Progress. League concerning the new lighting system to come to Reef ton. Mr Buist said that the League was anxious to co-operate with the Council. —After discussion the deputation was thanked for attending. Messrs J. K. Patterson and D Hamill, representing the Burnwell Coal Company, met the Council regarding a recent action lor damages and a suit against the company lor damage to the County water supply races at Reefton. —A resolution was passed that the company lodge with, the council a bond lor £2OO and; undertake to keep up the water races during the course of its working life and for one year after, and pays 'legal costs of the Council m tne action. , Air Green, for Green and Party sawmillers, Alexander Road, met the Council concerning road improvements, regarding offered help from his party in the work. —The Engineer, to carry out urgent repairs at once. The Public Works Department are to be asked to expedite the matter oi acceptance of tenders for Blackwater bridee. The Minister of Works is to be again written to concerning tne formation of a catchment area over the Inangahua-Buller area. Cr. Archer moved and Cr. Coghlan seconded, that the Alines Department be advised that the Council diq not recommend any reductions in mining rents in the matter of the recent applications recommended by the Aiming Warden.—Agreed.

HOSPITAL BOARD [OUR OWN CORRKSL’ONUENT.I REEFTON August 24., Mr J. B. Auld presided at the monthly meeting of the Inangahua Hospital Board. All members were jjresent. . W. H. Trengrove architect advisee that application had been made ,t<; the Building Controller for authority lor building of Nurses’ Home and Laundry Block and of other parts o I the Hospital in two sections.— fne Chairman reported that no reply had been received from the Building Controller to this application. The preparation of detailed working plant; would take three months. —It was resolved that the Building Controller be sent a telegram urging the immediate granting of a permit lor the new hospital buildings. Mr Discaciati suggested that the i sections for the new hospital should be cleared., and it was agreed that tne Chairman and town members arrange to have this work carried out bv a bulldozer contract. ‘ The Chairman reported that Dr , Taylor, of the Health Department had paid a visit of inspection to the Hospital, and had expressed satisfaction at the state of the Hospital. A resolution was passed that the Westland Breweries, Reef ton, be thanked for a donation for the provision of comforts lor hospital patients during the V.J. Days’ celebrations. Messrs Coghlan and McGregor were appointed a visiting committee tor the month. e . Dr. Wicken, Medical Superintendent, reported: Admitted 32, discharged 24, in-patients 32, births 10, X-rays 11, deaths 2. . The Matron’s report was taken m committee.
