MARSDEN MILL FIRE

COMPLETE DESTRUCTION. The Marsden mill of Ogilvie and Co. was completely destroyed by fire last evening, nothing of the contents or equipment of the mill being saved. The fire was discovered about 6.30 p.m., approximately two hours after work at the mill had ceased for the day, but by the time fire fighters were organised the fire had a strong hold and little could be done to save the building. There was practically no timber in the mill, but the efforts of helpers prevented the spread of the flames' to the timber stacks in the fyard. The mill, which had been operated by Ogilvie and Co. for about 30 years, had" an output of 7000 feet a day. There was no insurance on the building. The mill was to be closed down shortly and incorporated in a new mill which the company is building at Gladstone.
