APPEALS AT GREYMOUTH

ARMED FORCES BOARD Four applications for release from the Armed Forces, two reviews of appeals and an application for an extension of the period of postponement of service were heard by the Armed Forces Appeal Board which sat at Greymouth yesterday afternoon, and all applications but one were granted. Mr W. Meldrum presided, and associated with him were Messrs J. Mulcare and A. Panther. The secretary, Mr G. G. M. Mitchell, was also present. An appeal by the Post and Telegraph Department for E. F. Ord, a line erector, was adjourned sine die. An application for release from the Arnred Forces by V. O. Tiney, on account of ill-health, was recommended. G. J. Dick applied for the release of C. R. Barrow, a butcher, and a recommendation was made. West Coast Sawmillers’ Association sought the release of C. Taylor, as-i sistant head yardman.—Declined. S. M. Wallace applied for the release of W. D. Stephens to assist in work on appellant’s farm.—Recommended. appeal by R. B. Buchanan, mechanical digger on his own behalf, was reviewed and adjourned sine die. Dispatch Foundry Co., Ltd., sought an extension of the postponement of service of J. H. Lindbom, senior apprentice, to November 1 to allow him to complete his articles.—Application was granted. The Board is holding a sitting at Hokitika to-day.
