There is a risk, both to the mother and to the cTild, if the mother goes through pregnancy with a diseased mouth. The damage done may be reflected later in the dental unfitness of both, sometimes to a very serious degree. IMPORTANT POINTS TO REMEMBER: Baby teeth begin to form during the second month of pregnancy. The quality of baby teeth depends on the building material the mother supplies through her blood. She should eat foods that supply adequate calcium, phosphorus, iron'and vitamins. These are —milk, meat, fish, liver, cheese, whole-grain cereals, wholemeal bread, butter, eggs, cod liver oil, plenty of vegetables, plenty of milk, water and fruit drinks. And, of course, always iodised salt. She must consult her doctor regularly for medical check-up; she should also consult her dentist in the earlier months for dental check-up. And she should—- © Cut down the consumption of sugars and white flour—avoid sweets, biscuits and cakest ® Clean teeth and massage gums after every meal. © Get plenty of fresh air, sunshine and suitable exercise. © And when baby arrives, breast-feed him if at all possible. This will ensure proper jaw development. See that your teeth get that extra care they need during pregnancy. 20a FOR A HEALTHIER NATION | , — __ . ... , ... * — 41 I j w Get reliable,'safe, sure g f W©® ©i"” MPPERMBHT C»J _ .. .. -—_ 6-5 =^"^~wT = e7 = WOODS LTD., LAMBTON QUAY, WELLINGTON.
