COAST TIMBER DISPUTE
JOINT STATEMENT ISSUED
1 The following joint statement was issued this afternoon by Mr. J. S. Robertson, chairman of the West Coast Sawmillers’ Association, and Mr. F. L. Turley, Secretary ;0f the Westland Timber Workers’ Union: — ■ A further meeting of representatives of employers and employees was held at Greymouth yesterday when further progress was made. A full agreement was reached on the questions of:—(1) Wages other than youths; (2) House rents; (3) Hours of , work. i In the case of wages, it was agreed that 3|d per hour be added .to the : 1938 rates, such increase to be as from April 1, and to be paid to all adui: employees on the pay roll at 1/4/1945, and to be payable as soon as the Court confirms the agreement. i The following items were referred •to the Arbitration Court for its deicision:—(l) Youths’ wages; (2) Time ■wages shall be paid; (3) Wet time; (4) ! Travelling time. It was mutually agreed that the matters-in dispute be placed before the Court as early as possible and j failing a sitting at Greymouth within three weeks from April 26, the Court be asked to make a fixture at Wellington. .
