A London cablegram stated that the King has awarded the K.B.E. to General Scobie.

Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Davis, Auckland, arrived last evening on a holiday visit to Greymouth.

Acting Group Captain U. Y. Shannon (Wellington) has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, according to advice received from London by the Air Department.—P.A.

Mr. Ernest Cargill Cutten, a formei’ Senior Magistrate at Auckland, has died, at the age of 78. Mr.. Cutten, who was a Magistrate for twenty-six years, retired in 1933 after serving for twenty-four years at Auckland. He was born at Dunedin.—P.A.

The death occurred at his residence, Tomoana Avenue, Hastings, on day, of All- William Graham, aged 66, a former resident of Greymouth where he was supervisor of the mailroom at the Chief Post Office, tor about 12 years. He left Greymouth 14 vears ago for Hastings, where be bad since resided. Hs retired from the service of the Post and Telegraph Department about 18 months ago. In Greymouth the late Air Graham was a member of the Grey mouth Bowlir?- Club and Golf Club, and was also a Rugby referee, having been a Canterbury Rugby representative before coming to Greymouth. He is survived by his wife and one daughter.
