PATRIOTIC EXPENDITURE
£405,533 IN FOUR MONTHS
WELLINGTON. February 17. The total expenditure for patriotic purposes by the National Patriotic Fund Board in the four months ended on January 31 was £405,533. A statement submitted to the board showed among the items, expenditure of £128,591 on behalf of troops overseas, including goods to the value of £60,000 bought for the New Zealand Service clubs in Egypt and Italy, £10,278 for the expending agents, £80,409 for sick and wounded and prisoners of war (including Govern-/ ment grants), £26,455 for miscellaneous purposes (including provision for the welfare of troops in New Zealand and the purchase of wool), and £2,036 for the relief of distress overseas item.
In the expenditure on troops overseas was £6,377 for the benefit of repatriated prisoners of war, and. there was £1,360 towards the cost of catering for the welfare of New Zealand service personnel passing through Australian ports. . Individual amounts received by the board’s agents to enable them to carry out their work with the New Zealand forces were: Y.M.C.A. £5,002, Church Army £3,000, Salvation Army £l,OOO, Catholic War Services £l,OOO, Air Force Relations £256. In addition the Lady Galway Guild received £2O. Administration expenses were £404.
In the four months 20,203 cases of patriotic goods were sent overseas, to a total value of £84,524, to all theatres, including a transport and a hospital ship.
