QUAKE RECORDED

NEW YORK. Dec. 28. The Pasandena (California) institute of Technology recorded a heavy earthquake yesterday morning. Probably it was in the region of New Britain Island. It would be destructive if in a settled area. WELLINGTON, December 9. The Dominion Observatory yesterday recorded an earthquake at 3.33 a.m. at a distance which would agree with the Californian estimate, but because the fact it appeared to be deep-seated, it is doubtful from the Kelburn records if it would have been destructive in a settled area.
