CHESS TOURNAMENT

FOURTH ROUND RESULTS AUCKLAND, Dec. 28. With the completion of the fourth round of the New Zealand Chess Congress this evening, Wade, the title holder, leads with four points, haying won all his games. Moir and Lepvnkman tie with three each. The following were the results oi the fourth round:— McSherry v. Wade. —Sicilian Defence. McSherry lost a piece at. the tenth move through oversight. Wade then made a strong attack, and forced McSherry’s resignation at the nineteenth move. Lepviikman v. Moir. —Retis Opening. Early in the game, Moir lost a pawn, and he nad a hard fight, resigning at move 44, when Lepviikman threatened to queen a pawn. Meyer v. Adkins.—Queen’s Pawn. Adkins was two pawns up in the middle of the game, finally winning at the forty-seventh move.. Belton v. Webling.—Sicilian Defence. Belton was several pawns up in the middle of the game, and forced Webling’s resignation at move 64. Fletcher v. Reindler.—Caro Kann. Reindler was too strong, and forced Fletcher’s resignation at the fortieth Kelling v. Stewart.—King s Pawn Scotch game. Although Stewart won a pawn early in the match, he had to meet a strong attack, the game proving the most interesting of. the series so far. The game was adjourned at the call of time, Kelling being three pawns down. Major Open Tourney.—Fourth round: Richards beat Sim. H. Christensen beat Godtschalk by default, N. T. Fletcher beat Miss Hollis, R. Christensen drew with Pearse, N. Watt beat Summers, Henderson v. Mrs. Short, adjourned.
