ADRIATIC FRONT, December 13. The opera house in a mountain village on the Adriatic front was the venue of the New Zealand amateur boxing championships in the first divisional tournament possible since the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force was in Syria early in 1942. The preliminary sessions occupied three

evenings, and Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Freyberg did not miss a single contest. At the finals he was accompanied by Major-General H. E. Barrowclough. .‘ n o finals resulted:— ’m-weight: George Pratt (Wanganui) defeated Pat Rainbird (Wellington). Feather-weight: George Perry (Wellington) defeated Jack Cronon (Christchurch). Lightweight: Gordon Hawes (Westport) defeated Warren Parker (Cartertoh). Heavy-weight: Herby Hepburn (Te Aroha) defeated Stan King (Pukekohe). All the finals were won on points.
