U.S.A. AFFAIRS

NEW ENGINE FOR CARS

NEW YORK, December 14. Mr. Dennis Kendall, M.P., is en route to Detroit with a model of a three cylinder automobile engine, which the Associated Press says, will revolutionise the automobile industry. Mr. Kendall described the motor as 30 per cent, more efficient than the present petrol engine. He said it would run a rear-engine drive motor car for 50 miles at 60 miles an hour for a single gallon of petrol. Mr. Kendall is now building six sample motor cars weighing 8501bs, priced under 500 dollars. Mr. Kendall’s factories in England now manufacture guns and shells. NEW SERVICE RANKS WASHINGTON, December 15. Mr Roosevelt has signed legislation creating the ranks “Fleet Admiral of the Navy” and “General of the Army.” He nominated Admirals Leahy, King and Nimitz, and Generals Marshall, MacArthur, Eisenhower and Arnold for the new ranks.
