• APPEALS AT &REYMOUTH ■ Fifty-six appeals, mostly in respect to manual or artisan workers, were listed for hearing by ■ the Armed Forces Appeal Board, at Greymouth, to-day, and the sitting is not expected to conclude until after 5 p.m. Mr AV. Meldruni presided, and associated with him were Messrs A. Pafither and j. Mulcare. The Secretary, Mr G. G. M. Mitchell, was also present. The following were the appeals heard this morning,, except where otherwise stated the appeal being a review for the Air Force, and each man Grad? 1:— Au. appeal by Westland Transport. Ltd- Mr Leonard If. Lee, truck driver, married, three children, was adjourned sine die. Associated Gold Dredges appealed for F. T. Christie, stackerman, married, with two children; F. M. King, winchman, married, with two children; and R .C. Smith, winchman,, married, with one child. C. Cotter said Christie was now employed at Atarau clearing ahead of the dredge. He had been in that position for about four months. King and Smith were both winchmen on the dredge. In view of the urgent need of men for overseas and reservists being available, the Board would not grant a sin? die adjournment, said the ‘’Chairman, and the appeal would be adjourned lor three months for re-

Blackie said was the only experienced electrician on the dredge. He was married with two children. —Adjourned sine die. Barrytown Gold Dredging Co. appealed for G. H. McDuff, metallurist, married. W. Ellis, manager, said McDuff’s experience was complete and he was a key man. —.Adjourned sine die. Ranieri Gold Dredge, Ltd., appealed for John C .P. Muir, welder, married. three children; Albert E Thomas, metallurgist, married, two children; and. T. E. Lee, shore foreman, married, one child.

He could not see any advantage of an amalagamatioii of the duties of metallurgist on the three dredges, though he had investigated the matter. Lee’s duties covered control of the entire shore gang of eleven men. The first two appeals were adjourned sine die, and the Third for two months.

Arahura Gold Dredging Co. appealed for N. Pratt, metallurgist, married, one child.—Adjourned sine die.

Gold Mines of New Zealand Ltd. appealed in respect of David C. Jellie, electrical superintendent, married, two children. W. Ellis said reservist was. electrical superintendent at the Enrrytown, Arahura, and Kanieri diedges, being assistant dredgemaster at the latter, —Adjourned sine die. , _ T. H. Green appealed for Eric O. Brailsford, foreman carpenter, married, two children.

Appellant, .said he was engaged on priority work for the Mines Department, and on the construction ol State houses. Reservist carried on most of the building operations, and witness depended on him to a large extent.

The Building Trades recommended a sino-die adjournment, wirch was granted. Melvin. George Sheldon (Mr W. D. Taylor) lodged a new personal appeal.

Reservist said ho had been in the Army for some time, and had been in die Pacific- lor 21 months. On his return ho found his business in a poor stalo, and it was now picking up. He

would have to close down it he had to return io the Army. Cycle repairs v.'Oio more necessary now than over. —The appeal was adjourned for thrao months for review, appellant io make endeavours to obtain a replacement.
