PROPAGANDA DRIVE
LONDON, November 9. “The German propaganda machine has probably launched its V2 drive at this particular time, first to cloak Hiller’s failure, the first for 21 years, lo speak on the anniversary ol the Munich beer-hall putsch on Wednesday; and, second, to bolster up flagging German morale at a moment when a new Allied offensive appears imminent,” says The Press Association’s diplomatic correspondent. The Official German News Agency attributed Hitler’s failure to come to the microphone to “the mobilisation ban on celebrations of any kind.” Hitler’s last speech was on July 21. A powerful “ghost voice” repeatedly interrupted the German radio programmes between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. last night, asking: “Why doesn’t Hitler speak? Why does the Fuehrer keep silent? What is the matter with Hitler?”
“The Times’s” diplomatic correspondent says: “Hitler’s silence suggests that there may be some truth in the reports coming from Germany, through trustworthy channels, in the last few days, that nerve specialists lately found him exhausted, and urgently advised a complete rest for several weeks and the abolition of all WOrk '” LATER.
There was' a brief German Press and radio comment broadcast to-day on the anniversary of the Munich Putsch. It avoided any mention ol Hitler. It concentrated instead on the Bolshevist danger and the Allies failure to clinch the campaign in the West. . A Home Service broadcast warned the German people to concentrate on the present and not the past. flyincTbombs LONDON, November 9. Flying bombs on Wednesday night wrecked houses and caused casualties in several parts of southern England. London had a brief alert for the first time since Sunday night.
