Mrs. A. H. McKane returned yesterday, from Christchurch.

Mr W. T. Langbein will leave, this evening, on return to Wanganui.

Mr. James Roberts was re-elected president of the New Zealand Labour Party at the annual conference. The Minister of Health (Mr. Nordmeyer) was re-elected vice-president.—P.A.

Messrs N. S. Joyce, S. A. La Roche and J. Pennycook, agricultural inspectors, Canterbury Education Board, are visiting West Coast schools.

A London cablegram announced the death of Mr. Geoffrey Dawson, Editor of “The Times” 1912 to 1919 and 1923 to 1941. He was aged seventy.

Mr W A. West, Overseer on the staff of the Post and Telegraph Department, Greymouth, has received a similar appointment in Aucklnad, and will leave in January. Mr West has been, in Greymouth for six years, having come here from Invercargill.

Messrs A. E. Lawrence (a member of the Canterbury Education Board), L. E. Rowley (secretary of- the Board), D. McKay (principal of the Christchurch Teachers’ Training College), and'S. J. Irwin . (senior inspector of schools), arrived yesterday from Christchurch. They will return to Christchurch this evening.
