BOXING

GRIFFIN-GORDON MEETING.

WELLINGTON, November 6

A professional boxing contest between Jim Griffin (Wellington) and Clarrie Gordon (Auckland) to-night lasted exactly two minutes twentythree seconds. At this stage Griffin shot a right to Gordon’s head, the Aucklander going down for the full count. The announcer later informed the crowded house that the referee, Mr. P. Stone, had declared the fight “no contest.” Mr. Stone later stated that Gordon was certainly hit by a right on the head, but there was insufficient force in the blow to knock him out. Gordon’s seconds worked over him for some time before he left the ring.
