Messrs W. E. Olds and'N. D. Bowman, of Christchurch, who attended the quarterly meeting of the Greymouth Fire Board, yesterday afternoon, left, this morning, for Westport.

The death occurred in Christchurch yesterday of Mr. J. M. Coffey, licensee of the King Geoge Hotel, and for a period President of the Canterbury Licensed Victuallers’ Association. Mr. Coffey was born in Kaiapoi 53 years ago.

Dr. K. Kent-Koplowitz, of Brunner, intends leaving for New Lynn, Auckland, to take a practice, before the end of the month. His successor will be Dr. H. Schmidt, formerly of Vienna and now on the staff of the Wanganui Hospital. .

The death occurred at Christchurch, yesterday, of Mrs. Maureen Margaret Manera, of Ruatapu, aged 31 years. She was born at Hokitika and is survived by her husband, Mr. William Manera, and four children; also her mother, Mrs. M. Roberts (Hokitika), three sisters and seven brothers.

Mr A. A. McLachlan, S.M., is expected to arrive in Greymouth, this afternoon to replace Mr G. G. Chisholm, S.M., as Magistrate and Warden for the Greymouth-Hokitika-Reef-ton-Westport circuit. Mr McLachlan was admitted as a barrister and solicitor in 1923 and practised in Christchurch. He was a member of the Christchurch City Council. He was for several years chairman of a mortgage adjustment commission under the Mortgagors and Lessees Rehabilitation Act, and for a number of years past has been president of the Valuation Court under the Valuation of Land Act. In 1941 he was appointed a temporary magistrate, and has held successive appointments since.
