DRUGS FOR DOGS
FINES AND IMPRISONMENT.
LONDQN, July 18.
A sentence of 15 months’ imprisonment and a fine of £l,OOO were imposed at Lewes Assizes by Mr. Justice Macnaghten, yesterday, on William Albert Page, 42, a professional backer. . . He was found guiltv of conspiring with Victor Ernest Chapman to defraud persons betting .on races at Brighton and Hove Stadium by causing a “slow down” drug to be administered to greyhounds, and with similarly conspiring with Reginald William Frost. ' It was stated that on once race alone. Page made £ 1,700. John Thomas Hay, 53, of Slinnstreet. Sheffield, an importer of greyhounds from Ireland, was at Leeds, yesterday, sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and fined £lOO for attempting to induce two Sheffield trainers to give drugs to three of his own dogs. He was also ordered to pay £5O towards the cost of the prosecution.
