SWIMMING

HOLDING OF CHAMPIONSHIPS

Approval was given at the annual conference of the New Zealand Amateur Swmming Association in Christchurch, to a rota system allocating dates for the holding of New Zealand senior, junior, and intermediate championships. The secretary (Mr. Baxter O’Neill) said that the rota would operate in perpetuity. The appearance of any given year against any particular centre did not mean that the centre would definitely receive the championship, but merely that its application would be considered. The approved rota for senior championships was as follows: 1945, Canterbury; 1946, Bay of Plenty; 1947, Nelson; 1948, Otago; 1949, Manawatu; 1950, South Canterbury: 1951, South Auckland; 1952, Southland; 1953, Taranaki; 1054. West Coast; 1955, Wanganui: 1956, Wellington: 1957, Ashburton: 1958. Auckland; and then on from Canterbury again. Junior arid intermediate dates were as follows: 19-15, South Auckland; IfMfi, Southland; 1947, Taranaki; 1948, West Coast; 1949, Wanganui; 1950, Wellington; 1951, Ashburton; 1954, Auckland: 1953, Canterbury; 1954, Bay of Plenty; 1955, Nelson; 1956, Hawke’s Bay; 1957, Otago; 1958, Manawatu; 1959, South Canterbury; and then on from South Auckland. It was decided that, as from 1946, the junior and intermediate championships should be held in the third week of February each year.
