CONTROLLING GERMANY

MR HULL’S COMMENT

(Rec. 12.35 p.m.) WASHINGTON, September 25. Asked to comment on the Associated Press’s statement that Mr Roosevelt’s Cabinet was split over Mr jVtorgeathau’s proposals that Germany

be transformed into an agricultural ' nation, Mr Hull indicated to a Press conference that Britain and America had not yet reached mutual understandings on the method of controlling Germany after the war. Mr Hull said it would serve no purpose to say more at present, except that he hoped the higher officials of the governments concerned would reach an understanding early. Mr Hull cautioned that it was very necessary to

wait until it was known conclusions were reached by the British and Russian Governments. The Associated Press points out that Mr Hull studiously avoided any denial of the reported Cabinet split. The United Press says: Mr Hull’s attitude appeared to verify the earlier reports that the United States Government is still somewhat in the dark regarding the Russians’ ideas of controlling Germany.
