REEFTON NOTES

[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

REEFTON, Sept. 26. An employee of Burke’s Creek Colliery, Reefton, Maurice Murphy, single, suffered a severe cut in his left foot while at work on Monday. Mr Murphy' was cutting timber when the axe slipped. He was admitted to the Reefton hospital. • Mr. Ben Williams, engineer-fore-man of the Inangahua County Council, had an escape from serious injury on Saturday afternoon, when a light truck he was driving struck the structure of a bridge near Hukarere. Mr. Williams was endeavouring to avoid some stock, which were on the road, when the accident occurred. He was the only occupant of the vehicle. Coal totalling 2,233 tons was railed from Reefton railway station from mines in the Inangahua coal field for the week ended September 23. This figure does not include coal from the Buller field, which is also handled by the Reefton station. Members of Knox Church Ladies’ Guild, entertained members of Wesley Church and St. Stephens Church Ladies’ Guild at their monthly meeting. Musical items were given by Mesdames Leaning and Cochrane, Misses B. Lochore and J. Duff and Margaret Duff. Members of the Knox Church Guild played a sketch. The accompaniste was Mrs. J. H. Mulligan, Mrs. F. Marshall won a competition. Mrs. J. Braidwood welcomed the visitors and thanked them for the help during the afternoon.

St. Stephen’s Church will be holding the Spring Flower Show on Saturday, September 30th. The season promises well for a good show of spring bulbs, although other flowers seem to be a little backward. Mr Yates of Cobden will be judging the flower sections. Miss Ramsay of the Greymouth Technical School will judge the domestic and industrial sections. The Show is to be held in the Princess Theatre, Broadway. Entries close with the secretary or at Dellaca’s shop to-morrow (Wednesday, 27th.)
