GREY BOROUGH INVESTMENT
The £3OOO which the Greymouth Borough Council is investing in the Victory Loan comprises cash reserves either actual or provided for in this year’s estimates, said the Mayor (Mr. F A. Kitchingham) yesterday. He added that in the year 1943-44 the rents from the Town Hall, plus £350, which was allocated for improvements to the caretaker’s quarters, were funded, while a new fund for replacement of motor vehicles was also started and £285 paid into it. On March 31, 1944, there was £1125 6/4 in the bank in these accounts. This year the Council made provision for funding the following amounts: Replacement of motor vehicles £250, further instalment for improvements to caretaker’s quar--ters £350, and Works Machinery Fund £l5OO, a total of £2lOO, which, added to the £1125/6/4, provided the funds out of which the £3OOO is being invested. Realisation of the stock when the men return from overseas will enable the Council to proceed with the works for which the money is allocated. Investments in the Westland district to-day totalled £5,023, bringing the grand total to £132,825, or 29 per cent, of the quota, leaving £323,060 to be raised in the district in the next 10 days.
