Mr. Roosevelt has returned from Quebec, states a Washington message.
Mrs'. W. S. Austin will arrive tomorrow from Wellington on a visit to Mrs. D. Tennent, Cowper Street. Mr O. R. Gardner, of Riverton, today commenced duty as supervisor at the Hokitika Post Office.
The funeral of Mr. Oswald Jackson took place at Karoro Cemetery this afternoon. Rev. P. Kirkham conducted the services.
Mr T. Mitchell, Postmaster at Moray Place, Dunedin, who has been appointed to a similar position at Hokitika, will take up his appointment in the first week of October.
Messrs N. R. Jameson and J. D. Revie have been appointed woolgrowers’ representatives on the New Zealand Wool Council, says. the Gazette. —P.A.
Pte. Clarence R. A. Brown, of Blaketown, is included in a number of N.Z.E.F., prisoners of war- who have been repatriated from Germany to the United Kingdom.
A Sydney cablegram stated that Admiral of the Fleet Lord Keyes has arrived in Australia on official business with the Commonwealth Government. He has just completed an extensive tour of the .United States.
The death has occurred at Stratford of Mrs. Mary Lawn, widow of Mr. Charles H. Lawn. She was born at Kumara 72 years ago. As Miss Lamason she was one of the early members of the nursing staff of the Kumara Hospital. Her husband died, some years ago, and she is survived by thrCe sons and two daughters.

Colonel J. T. Burrows. 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force (Middle East), has been appointed temporarybrigadier, according to the Gazette. Major H. H. Parata, New Zealand Armoured Corps, has been appointed temporary-lieutenant-colonel. Tem-porary-Major W. M. Manchester has been appointed officer in charge of the plastic surgical unit, Burwood, with the temporary rank of lieuten-ant-colonel. —P.A.
